Renting & Shared Housing

  • Tuesday 19th July
  • 6pm – 7pm
  • Havelock House

A collaboration between Legal Aid ACT and the AIDS Action Council, presented by Deb Pippen

Renting a property in the ACT can involve substantial responsibilities. Make sure you protect your interests by being aware of your rights as well as your responsibilities. Become an equal partner in the landlord / tenant relationship.

Many people live in shared housing under assorted agreements or no agreement at all. Do you live in a shared house? Do you know the legal status of your shared housing arrangement? This session will look at the different arrangements and who is liable if things go pear shaped. The bond, the final cleanup, damage to a property and eviction.

Who is a Parent?

  • Tuesday 16th August,
  • 6pm – 7pm
  • Havelock House

A collaboration between Legal Aid ACT and the AIDS Action Council, presented by Heidi Yates.

  • Legal recognition of same-sex parents has undergone significant reform across all jurisdictions in Australia. This session will cover:
  • Legal parental recognition
  • Parental responsibility
  • Adoption
  • Surrogacy
  • Historical issues of not being named on a child’s birth certificate, inheritance issues, wills and family trust implications.
