Canberra LGBTIQ+ Community Consultation - Royal Commission into Aged Care
Silver Rainbow, the National LGBTI Health Alliance’s ageing & aged care project would like represent the voices of older LGBTI people & elders in the Royal Commission into Aged Care. We are doing this through public consultation with LGBTI people and their friends/families who are accessing, previously accessed or tried to access ageing & aged care services.
The aim of the consultation is to collect and communicate the experiences, views and interests of LGBTI elders and older people into clearly defined issues for the attention of the Royal Commission.
It is absolutely vital that we have many loud voices in this unique opportunity to highlight the experiences of older LGBTI people & elders.
Consultations are to be held nationally across each State and Territory, where possible there will be a mix of metropolitan and rural/regional/remote consultations.
The Canberra Consultation will be held at 10.00am - Wednesday 11 September 2019.
The venue is the Federation Room, Havelock House, 85 Northbourne Ave, Turner, ACT.
The target groups for the consultation is:
- LGBTI People who are using or have used aged care.
- LGBTI People who have supported a person using aged care services (whether or not the person they are/were supporting is LGBTI or not – we’re after their experiences as carers/supporters/family/friend)
- Non-LGBTI people who have supported an LGBTI older person to access aged care or are currently supporting someone who is receiving aged care
- LGBTI people who are working or have worked in aged care
By aged care we mean home care, residential aged care, respite care, transition care and commonwealth home support program.
The information received through the consultations will be included in the submission by the National LGBTI Health Alliance to the Royal Commission into Aged Care.
