Feedback is now open for the ACT Charter of Rights For Victims of Crime. The ACT Government is seeking feedback on three key issues as part of its consultation of a Charter of Rights for Victims of Crime. You’re invited to provide your views to help ensure the Charter meets the needs of the ACT community, criminal justice agencies and the organisations that support victims of crime.

 WHAT IS THE CHARTER OF RIGHTS FOR VICTIMS OF CRIME?

The ACT Government is committed to delivering Charter to ensure all victims of crime can access:

  • information, support and opportunities to have a voice as their case progresses through the justice system and
  • a complaints system to ensure justice agencies are held accountable for delivering victims’ rights.

WHY PARTICIPATE?

The ACT Government is seeking feedback on three key issues as part of its consultation of a Charter of Rights for Victims of Crime:

  • How information could be provided in an accurate and timely way to victims of crime about justice processes and their case
  • What other opportunities exist for victims of crime to participate in the justice process
  • What appropriate complaint management, remedy and oversight mechanisms are required for victims of crime.

You’re invited to provide your views to help ensure the Charter meets the needs of the ACT community, criminal justice agencies and the organisations that support victims of crime.

WHO SHOULD PARTICIPATE?

ACT COMMUNITY MEMBERS

  • people who have experienced crime and the ACT criminal justice system

  • family members and close supports of people who have experienced crime and the ACT criminal justice system, and

  • members of diverse groups, including people who have specific needs when accessing the criminal justice system.

Agencies and services

  • criminal justice agencies

  • organisations that support victims of crime

  • organisations that work with diverse groups

  • legal sector stakeholders
