STRIP Clinic: simple and confidential sexual health testing, now with added PrEP

STRIP Clinic

Accessing sexual health checks regularly is an essential part of a healthy sex life, and we're making it even simpler to get tested!

STRIP Clinic makes sexual health testing more accessible for Canberra's LGBTIQ communities, making it simpler to look after your sexual health. STRIP Clinic is quick, imple, confidential and free for everyone. Medicare cards are not required for standard consultations (but are recommended for PrEP consultations). Friendly and professional nurses from the Canberra Sexual Health Centre and Capital Health Network are in attendance and your results are available the following week in person, or sooner over the phone or via text message*.

Consultations take 30 to 45 minutes. Limited places are available for each session, including PrEP consultations. We recommend booking to minimise your wait time.

Tests conducted at STRIP Clinic are looking for asymptomatic STIs, those that do not always have obvious symptoms, including;

  • HIV
  • Syphilis
  • Hepatitis’ A, B and C
  • Chlamydia
  • Gonorrhoea

All tests are voluntary and can be discussed with the nurses. The tests are designed to be as non-invasive as possible, and some samples are self-collected in privacy. To make a booking contact the AIDS Action Council on 02 6257 2855.

STRIP Clinic is available at our offices, located at Havelock House, 85 Northbourne Avenue, Turner. You can access the AIDS Action Council office through the Gould St entrance to Havelock House. STRIP Clinic also takes place at the Ranch (19 Molonglo Mall, Fyshwick, ACT) every month. See below for dates. Each time you test with STRIP at the Ranch, you receive free entry for a future Ranch visit!

Gay and bisexual men without symptoms can also access sexual health testing at M Clinic (Building 5 of the Canberra Hospital, Palmer Street, Garran). M Clinic is a free walk-in clinic available between 4:30pm and 7pm on the first Monday of every month. This excludes public holidays.

STRIP Clinic is a project of PACT, the Partnership Approach to Comprehensive Testing, since 2002. PACT is collaboration between the AIDS Action Council, Canberra Sexual Health Centre, Medicare Local ACT, SWOP ACT and Sexual Health and Family Planning ACT as well as the venues that allow the clinics on their premises. Each Clinic runs from 5pm - 7pm
