The Future is U



The Future is U’ is a project funded by the ACT Government’s Capital of Equality Grants Program and managed by The Street Theatre in collaboration with the AIDS Action Council. The aim of the project is to create a new theatre work about the effects of HIV on the lives of Canberrans both in the past and in the present, and that looks toward the future. It is an important work to create now, in the age of PrEP and U=U, as people’s attitudes toward the virus undergo a radical shift, a shift that has changed many people’s behaviours.  Award-winning ACT playwright David Atfield has been commissioned to create the work, which will draw on the lived experience of Canberrans to explore changing attitudes to HIV, stigma and sexual/psychosocial behaviour.

How do we care for our community, nurture it and help it grow? Buying locally, shopping locally, supporting farmers’ markets, businesses and artists? These are all familiar concepts; it helps us feel a part of something bigger, cultivates a sense of belonging, and promotes a feeling of ownership:  I support my community; this is where I live and belong. However, there is one way of ‘growing our own’ often overlooked and undervalued - supporting our local community organisations.

The AIDS Action Council is seeking Expressions of Interest (EOI) from suitably experienced people to be considered for appointment to the Board of Directors.

We strongly encourage and welcome applications from People living with HIV, culturally and linguistically diverse people, members of the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities and we welcome people from the trans and gender diverse communities as well as people from the intersex community.
