LGBTIQ Community Consortium Report
The Canberra LGBTIQ Community Consortium (the Consortium) is pleased to present you with a report of the findings from a series of complex consultations undertaken by the Consortium over the last few months.
The Consortium is a partnership of four agencies brought together by the common goal of ensuring health, wellbeing, access, social inclusion and equity for Canberra’s lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, intersex and queer (LGBTIQ) communities.
This report presents findings of the mixed method consultations which were held with members of LGBITQ communities and service providers to identify unmet needs in the community, barriers to services and good practice in delivering appropriate and accessible services to LGBTIQ communities.
I am pleased to be able to report that the Consortium has been working together and demonstrated real leadership with links to community, which allow us to use highly successful peer based connections. Our success is in part due to our longstanding relationship with members of the community from diverse backgrounds, giving our work a level of ‘authenticity’ and ‘authority’, which is highly desired but rarely achieved by government or mainstream health or other providers. In addition, our intimate knowledge of community networks and media enable us to target messages appropriately, and in cost effective ways.
We hope this report provides your organisations with valuable information to assist you with your service delivery to the community. Please note the Consortium will be implementing all the recommendations in the report and please stay tuned for more information as the deliver on these recommendations.
