Fair Day at Gorman Arts Centre

The AIDS Action Council is proud to present Fair Day at Gorman Arts Centre. Join us for a fun filled day of markets, fabulous food and entertainment celebrating the diversity of Canberra’s LGBTIQ communities.

Fair Day has been held annually since the first SpringOUT Pride Festival in 1999.

SpringOUT Pride Festival is Canberra’s queer cultural festival which affirms the pride, joy, dignity and identity of Canberra’s LGBTIQ (lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, intersex and queer) communities through events of celebration. This year Fair Day has been given a new location at Gorman Arts Centre. The Gorman Arts Centre supports a range of innovative and accessible arts and community activities and is within easy walking distance of Civic and Braddon.

Fair Day has been the site of important community research including the Snapshot Lesbian and Bisexual Women’s Survey and the Canberra Gay Community Periodic Survey. Fair Day continues to be one of Canberra’s major grassroots community events.

They provide us with access to community intelligence and cultural knowledge; greater reach; self-generated funds; and efficient data and information collection. Additionally, volunteers join us as peer educators, make up our Board, and are integral to the operation of our counselling service.

National Gay Men’s HIV Health Promotion Conference

For small organisations such as our own, conference attendance plays an important part in moving the work of the organisation forward. It is a chance to connect with peers from across the country and across the range of work in our sector. Thirty years on from the beginning of the HIV epidemic , changes in treatments, prevention tools and the complex responses required for reducing HIV transmissions  means that maintaining the partnership of community, researchers, clinicians and government is as important as ever.
