Same-Sex Law Reform and Pension Changes

National LGBT Health AllianceRecent changes to Commonwealth legislation bring unprecedented equality for same-sex couples in Australia. There is, however, concern for those people who will be disadvantaged by the new changes.

The AIDS Action Council, a member of the National LGBT Health Alliance, believes there is a strong case for ‘grandfathering’ specifically for those currently aged over 55 years and for extended implementation for those under 55 and already receiving pensions and/or other benefits.

Treataware

The Treataware project aims to support people living with HIV make informed decisions about their treatments, and support their partnerships with doctors and clinicians.

The Treataware 1800 phone line has closed down as of 23 January after running for three months longer than originally scheduled. The other components of the campaign - the website www.treataware.info, including the HIV clinical trials database, and the free booklet - will continue to be available.

The Treataware clinical trials database is the first publically searchable database of HIV clinical trials. If you are considering taking part in a clinical trial, you can find user-friendly information about it to inform your choices.

Getting the Best HIV Health Care is a free checklist guide to help people living with HIV to make the best decisions they can about their health, care and treatment. Get your free copy from your doctor, from PLWHA ACT or download the PDF.
